Niepoort tasting with Nick Delaforce, Belfast, Thu 7 Nov

Post by djewesbury »

Nick Delaforce will be visiting Belfast on the 7th of November to lead a tutored Niepoort tasting, continuing our 'Port of Belfast' series of events.

The McGrath suite at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast, 7.30pm.

A tasting with four wines, and six ports - including Niepoort Colheita and the 2000 and 2011 Vintages.

Review of the evening.

Interesting news. Sophia Berqvist is in town on the same night for a tasting organised by JN Wines. Hopefully there will be time for us all to meet up at the end of the evening over a glass of something refreshing.

Are you suggesting this would be a port crawl? That we should first visit John Nicolson's wine show and then catch up with you and Oscar?
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

I think that if people fancy going around Nicholson's Xmas event - which I imagine is a very general walkaround tasting - and then joining the main event (ahem) then we should run it that way. The JN event starts at 6 in the Merchant Hotel, in the centre of town. The likely venue for our tasting is about 7 minutes' walk away; we could begin at 7.. And at the end of the evening we can meet Sophia for a relaxing post-show drink.

Depending on when she has to get back to wherever she is arriving from, we could also all go for lunch the next day, before the PortForum event in the evening, which I suspect she will not be able to attend (though she is invited!)

Joy of joys.

And does this mean that you might be able to join us, AHB?

It means that I am seriously considering whether there would be a business benefit to me visiting some of our sites in Northern Ireland on Friday 8th November.

This is excellent news for the international cause of port drinking.

Am currently not expecting to be able to join you that week as previously discussed by PM; will let you know if things change.

Justin - re your PM - no need to bring for this night, Nick will be doing a tutored tasting of Niepoort ports so your collection is safe - just a ticket price to cover costs. Glad you can join us.

JackDAW sounds better; is DiRTbag with you tonight too?
Good luck and I hope it goes well.

DoC (not the Douro wine, I mean Derek of Chesterfield) arrives tomorrow.
