Grahams Fine Ruby Port - cloudy?

Post by mannye »

I just ran out and bought a what I thought would be a nice cheap ($20) bottle of ruby port (here's a link to what I found at my local wine merchant http://www.beersofeurope.co.uk/grahams-fine-ruby-port)

Supposedly does not need decanting. I just wanted something to enjoy while I did a little internet shopping.

It smells and tastes nice enough, but looks like I took a 50 year old bottle off the rack and shook it "to make sure I mixed up all the goodness." Completely opaque, muddy looking even.

Now I know this is a cheap ruby and the oldest wine in that bottle is probably three years old or less, but should it be so cloudy?

I've been following what you've said about the extreme climatic conditions where you are.. but no, i can't believe that even a simple ruby could be impossible to get. Take it back..

I'll be taking it back tomorrow. It didn't look like it had been sitting.. dust free.. That's the bottle in the background there.

Ew. That looks disgusting. There's something seriously wrong with that bottle, even if it's an old bottle. There should not be that much sediment in a Fine Ruby because those are filtered before being bottled.

Just for laughs I ran it through a coffee filter and there was nothing left behind. Looks like it got some kind of bacteria or something. More tomorrow!

Can you post a clear pic of the actual bottle (labels) and capsule of the bottle you bought?

I suspect this had been sitting on a very warm shelf for a long time.

OH was that not the bottle? Thank you. I've caught the planted tank bug. Those pics are about two years old. OH I see now.. the link took you to the entire album. Hope you didn't have to wade through all my boring hobbies to get to the bottle...

Most definitely not right. What did it taste like?

And what did the retailer say when you took it back?
