For those looking to adopt, I also have Taylor, Offley and Rebello Valente available.

Tom - before I head into the wilds of Essex for Taylors of questionable reputation, maybe I should adopt one of yours. Would that be a good idea? I will PM you now.

I think for this tasting I'd like to know what I'm drinking. I think it will add to my enjoyment of the wines, none of which I will have tasted before. This is obviously different for those (the majority) who know 66 very well; so if that majority would prefer to test their formidable, indefatigable and infallible wits, then I shall still be drinking ten wonderful 47-year-old ports.

My desire to taste ports I haven't yet tried makes me think this is possibly a favourable option.. although the TN posted doesn't really exalt its virtues..
Do these statements reconcile?

Ah, yes. Do you mean that my saying that I would avoid a particular wine, based on an unenthusiastic TN, contradicts my wish to explore this vintage thoroughly? Well, I am guided (swayed?) by others' opinions, as a prelude to forming my own; and when we have finite scope in a single evening to taste wine from this vintage, I suppose I prioritise some more established or reliable names over others. Once those are confirmed, I am happy to roam far and wide through the wines of 66. Is that not the best way to further my education?

No...more that your former post seemed to indicate a preference for the Morgan on the basis that you had not tried it....which to me implied that you had tried the Taylor!

Oh, I see.. I think what I meant was that one half of my brain was saying 'Taylor, yeah, you've had the 1960, the 1970, you've had Taylors from around this period, if never the actual 66.. But you've never tasted a Morgan at all, of any vintage...' It was a feeling based on not knowing anything about the Morgan whatsoever beyond what I've read..

Subject to nothing changing with Mrs Read's schedule next week, it loooks like I am able to join you. The only 66 I have is Croft which was a present from my father and I think had been in his cellar for 40 odd years. Croft has already been promised though, so does anyone have anything to offer for adoption please? (Assuming Chris is still planning on bringing this.)

Nobody has ever been hurt by having two different Croft 1966s in one evening.

If now's not the occasion for your Croft, THRA has a Rebello up for adoption.

Alternatively, it might be nice to have a confirmed Dow given that that is one of the wines of the vintage. If you want to adopt my Fonseca, i'd be happy to bring the other Dow from Phil's stock (TN here)

In this thread, each update of the placemats has included pictures. In the thread about the software that makes the placemats I have asked whether this is worth the effort. Please reply in that thread.

Question: if we have covered the main 66s, should we be looking at a couple of choice 67s (eg: Sandeman, Martinez, Cockburn) for any additional bottles that are needed?

Are there any lesser 66s we're missing / can get hold of?

As far as i am aware, we are missing the following 66s:

Barros
BBR own selection
Burmester
Calem
Cockburn
Delaforce
Dow Bomfim
Feist
Ferreira
Kopke
Morgan
Noval Nacional
Niepoort
Quarles Harris
Ramos Pinto
Rebello Valente
Smith Woodhouse

No doubt there are others as well.

In terms of what other people have in their cellars, are not reserved for other tastings and can be adopted / contributed, the list is somewhat smaller.
