Forum Rules

Post by KillerB »

I don't want this place to be loaded down with rules but here are some basic ones that I suggest we adopt:

1. Be civil - no flaming, no obscene swearing, no insults, no racism, no sexism, no political fights. Teasing is fine but nothing offensive. Basically be nice. Let's make this the nicest site on the web.

2. No pornography, no spam, no violent images. Links can be made to other sites for reference but nothing offensive.

3. Try to keep to the topic and if you can't then at least be amusing. That's amusing for others not just yourself.

4. Don't pinch other people's work without sticking it in quotes and leaving a reference or link. No names no pack-drill.

Any other suggestions?

We can come to an agreement on them.

phew! (And I'll leave it at that! :D )

I agree completely. And if anyone is having a laugh and its going completely off subject, just post that your carrying it over to the Meaningless Drivel Threads and then take it there and carry on. Just so that those who want to stick generally on subject dont have to trawl through too much.

Fair?

Back on topic.....

I like the rules stated above and I think 4 is enough for now.

That said, I think some general guidance stickies on some of the Forums would be useful, especially things like TN's where it would be helpful, but not essential or compulsory, to format posts in a consistent way.

Derek

PS: I'm glad I didn't break Rule 3 with my previous post, which was hilarious for everyone, not just me

I've changed the titles of TNs that don't conform and will put a sticky up so that I don't have to keep doing it. I'm sure everybody here should be happy with them.

I think the rules are very sound, and furthermore I think you did a great job setting this up. Cheers!

I will delay that as much as possible. I like the warrior title. It fits perfectly with the action picture of Dries as my avatar.

I like it as well, it's the only one I've liked so far and fits as the best title of rubies.

Is that a legal definition? If so, does it apply equally to Scots Law and the Law's of England and Wales?

Recalling why we are here, …

Post by jdaw1 »

Recalling why we are here, here being both domain and thread…

What are the rules on the administrators?
• Manifest spam, obscenity, pornography (using a work-compatible definition), flaming, and automated submissions can go.
• But admins pay two roles. They are god — in that they can change other’s posts and lock threads — and they are participants, people with online characters on which others will comment, sometimes favourably.
• Protecting others (non-admins) requires a far lower burden of proof than protecting admins.
• Try to allow people to have fun.

More admin rules

And every time an admin does change a post, a line must be left on that post: “Edited by name-of-admin on date to remove something-that-describes-the-offence†.

Although I agree with most of this, surely we dont want a huge imposing raft of Do's an Dont's?
I would throw in the one about the One Post Wonder who tries to Flog us his Dead Grandads Expensive Bottle. They need politely telling to go elsewhere, until they are regular posters and we've got to know them. There's a whole world of internet Scams, where they get the money before you Never get the goods.
But I wouldn't be in favour of huge rule lists. It may become necessary much further down the line if we're successful, but couldn't we just do with general agreement, and then letting us self impose?
In time, we may need a 'User Group' of Moderators, so there's more chance of someone being able to deal with mistakes or misbehaviour quickly, but for now, lets focus on the positives.
What do others think???

As far as Admin is concerned I'm trying to keep to JDAW's rules and keeping it friendly and slightly irreverent. I'm having trouble trying to keep my normal ID separate as I forget to switch, please be patient.

So rules so far:
