1984 Smith Woodhouse LBV

Post by nac »

The first of two bottles purchased in September 2023 from a sale at Hedonism.

Opened and double-decanted at 0800 on the morning of the Aged LBVs tasting.

Proper driven cork in good condition. Fair amount of sediment and excellent colour. Cork stamped "Bottled 1988".

QA sample good.

That featherweight, clean, electric glossiness. Still good hints of maraschino and apricot, finish only just starting to peter out but overall still holding together. Excellent fun. A lot of vibrancy if not weight.

SW84 LBV. Light red, 25% opaque. Far past prime, dry, some red cherry remaining.

With time it improved in the glass, but still, far past prime.

A shimmering mahogany. Dumb spirity nose. Palate a bit lacking. Some prune on the finish. Not right IMHO.
