2011 Croft

Post by winesecretary »

Last tasted by me a decade ago EP. Then it was a standout of the vintage for me. It still is.

Decanted 30 minutes.

Deep purple with reddish rim. Remarkably glass-staining.

Cool violets and blueberries on the nose. Great weight of fruit.

Huge weight of blue fruit on the front palate too, and then some still quite prominent chocolate tannins on the gently drying finish with a distinct hint of the Croft mandarin late.

This is proper port. The Croft 1991 is one of the wines of that minor vintage but this Croft 2011 is a wonderful wine from a major vintage.

Good for the very long haul. Best maybe circa 2051-2071? I won’t be alive to find out. But I have a fair bit of this and will probably try a bottle every two or three years to watch it on the road to maturity.
