2000 Quevedo Garrafeira (bottled 2021)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled in 2021 in 9cl for the 2021 advent calendar. An opaque dark blood-red colour. Tasted alongside the 2000 colheita the colours were remarkably different, with the colheita being a delightful brick red colour, 60% opaque. Youthful fruit on the nose, black cherry and dark plum. Wonderful palate, dark fruit with fine grained tannins providing a dry counter-point on the edges of the tongue. Powerful acidity supports the fruit and ensures the palate remains fresh, although the acidity also generates a little heat on the aftertaste before a long finish of fragrant but bitter-sweet blackthorn and rhubarb settles in for the long haul. Way too youthful, one day this will be a stunning wine. 90/100. Tasted 16-Mar-23. Decanted 1 hour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
