1985 Fonseca

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

A bottle opened and served blind, to be compared with a bottle of Fonseca 1985 tasted on a sighted basis to see if the wine deserves its lofty reputation.

Warm brick-red colour, medium rim. Youthful fruit on the nose, but soft and rounded. Much softer and more rounded fruit on the palate, mature fruit yet with some lovely biting tannins. The fruit on the palate has some spice yet still has some youthfulness to its sweet fruit. Cedar wood aftertaste, then a big mouthful of ginger and red cherry. Really very impressive. 94/100. Served blind was guessed to be GM82. Was F85. Drunk 03-Mar-23.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
