NV Taylor Tawny (Platinum Jubilee Very Very Old Tawny) (bottled 2022)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

A tasting sample of Taylor’s Very Very Old Tawny, bottled in 2022 to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The port is a deep mahogany brown colour with an olive green rim, 60% opaque. Huge beeswax and sweet date nose leaps from the glass, even when smelt in the garden with a breeze dispersing the smell of the wine. On the palate the wine is beautifully poised and balanced, self-assured acidity balances the sweet honey and date allowing the flavours and subtle undertones to flourish without allowing the wine to become cloying. There is the deep resonance of very old wines in the palate, but the balance is extremely impressive. The aftertaste allows the depth of the aged wines to show clearly, gradually letting go to allow the honey, lime and walnut to settle and stay for a lifetime. Fabulous. Thank you David Guimaraens and team for such a wonderful wine. 97/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Nice note. Do you know what years make up the blend?

No idea. Haven’t found anything on the web about the years going into the blend.
