2014 Niepoort LBV

Post by winesecretary »

Bottled 2019

+30 mins

90% opaque red rimmed wine. Nose a little dumb, some restrained red fruits. Big, slightly hot, red plum on the palate. Finish has a good deal of tannin showing. More attractive to drink now, however, than this sparse note suggests.

Appearance as before. Slightly dusty note on nose. Then - passion fruit? Hit of heat and undifferentiated red fruit on the mid palate. Drying chocolatey tannins on the relatively brief finish.

Approachable now. It will certainly last a while. I am not sure that age will bring beauty. I do not feel the need to acquire more of it, which is, I think, a unique experience for me with a wine from Niepoort.

Consumed 3/7/20 & 4/7/20
