1985 Graham

Post by winesecretary »

Fine long cork which came out cleanly. Decanted clear almost all the way to the generous tablespoonful of sediment (truly sedimentary: sludge really). Decanting sample promising, but decanted 3 hours before serious tasting. 60% opaque, glossy wine. Big hit of mint on the nose, with some cranberry behind it. Just a flick of alcohol. Poached strawberries front palate, hint of prune in the middle, and poached strawberries again on the pleasingly long warm finish, with some herbaceous notes and a flick of white pepper at the very end. On this showing this is, now (finally?), very good port indeed.

Night two: more cherry stone and red licorice on the finish, no white pepper, a not-unpleasing lip-sticking quality.
