Tawny is a different style of wine from ruby and vintage ports. It is aged in barrels for a longer period of time and blended from different vintages to give a nuttier flavour. Lighter in colour, hence the name tawny, and often drunk slightly more chilled. Instead of a vintage year an age is given to the wine, most will be ten or twenty years old (often abbreviated to 10yot and 20yot), this being an average of the vintages that went into the blend. Nice with cheese and nuts.
Notable tawnies:
Warre's Otima 10 and 20 yo tawnies
Niepoort 10yot
Quinta do Noval 10yot
Dow 20yot
Please add some others, this is not my area.
