1970 Graham

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Tasted at the Symington Family Estates presentation of their 2015 ports.

Ex-cellars. Mature brick-red colour; 50% opaque. Sweet mature and spiced fruit on the Christmas cake nose. This is just so easy to sniff and delivers a real "Wow". Balanced entry, sweet and spiced with raisins and cloves combined with a lovely texture. Air brings out the complexity and releases even more flavours. Delicious and spicy finish with aniseed and tobacco with a great length. Another superb port. 95/100. Drunk 18-May-17. Decanted 2 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Hi AHB, I’ve bought a bottle of the 70 for my wife’s birthday and we are having a dinner party to celebrate. What cheese would you recommend to have with it; I’m not a great cheese lover myself

With mature port I prefer hard white cheeses like Cheddar or Comte. I also really enjoy Jarlsberg, Gouda, Parmesan or emmental with mature port like Graham 1970.

Depending on where you are in the country, we might be able to offer some much more local choices of white cheese. Where I live, St Bartholemew or Spenwood are great cheeses to eat while drinking mature port.
