Allegedly, a packrat might be able to create multiple extra mailboxes within the PM system so that said packrat might be able to keep all messages ever sent or received.

Doing so might render the message limit redundant, however, which is why this remains a rumor.

The parameter ‘Maximum private message folders’ is currently 4, and ‘Maximum private messages per box’ is 50.

Re: Tapatalk 2 with TPF & iPhone

Tapatalk has been upgraded to version 4.0.0 on the server.

It appears to be working fine on my iPhone 5 and iPad but could those who use it please test and feedback here?

In the interest of transparency, the admins received an email this morning regarding the planned "Monetization" of Tapatalk which, according to the email is scheduled to take place around three months from now. From what I can determine Monetization involves earning money from links to websites that contain paid advertising. The plan seems to be that the owner of the forum containing the link earns a commission from the site it links to. Having discussed this briefly by email the admins are not minded to participate in such a scheme but we will monitor how it works during the three month test phase and then decide what to do, which will probably be to turn it off.

Could those who use Tapatalk please report any instance of seeing advertising when viewing :tpf: here so that we know what is happening from you end?

Interestingly, the Monetization dashboard of our account with Tapatalk says we are $0.12 in credit as a result of various links being used on this forum since May 2013.

We will keep you posted here things become clearer.

If possible, which it probably won’t be.
DRT wrote:we are $0.12 in credit
Riches! If we can’t turn off the advertising, I suggest that we use credit to offset hosting costs. If income exceeds hosting costs then â‘  I’ll be utterly amazed; and â‘¡ we’ll then decide what to do with excess money (e.g., subsidise a large tasting).

E.g., let’s guestimate that Tapatalk takes in $10”° (per thousand impressions), and that we get 10% of this, and that one in ten threads has an advertisement. Using the first page of Organising Tastings, which goes back to January, that has 116496 views. So that would be about $12 for us. Double up for the rest of the site, add a bit to get to December, and that’s a wild guess of ≈ $30 to $50 per year. Riches!

This is their testing period. Wait and see. The app is now free; adverts are their only income. No adverts might mean no Tapatalk. (Also, I edited as you posted.)

Ooops: small error. What proportion of these views are Tapatalk rather than browser? Make that 30¢ to 50¢ per year.

It seems unlikely that all of the stats relate to the last 30 days but there is no further explanation given.

Three users a day. Guess that each sees ten threads, so one ad impression. So 1000 impressions a year, so $10 to Tapatalk, of which they give us $1. Riches! Enough to buy, perhaps, ½cl of F70.

The thing is, the people likely to be browsing the forum using Tapatalk are not people we don't know, they are us. In fact, it's me and about two other people. I imagine that if you come across the forum by chance or by googling, you will be looking at it in a browser.. I'd prefer not to see ads.

Agreed: you, me, and two others from this forum. But as ads are Tt’s only income, we’re not likely to have much choice.

I think we have five Tapatalk users, one of them being me and two living on the western seaboard of the USA.
