It's just not cricket

Moved from here.

Even to a Scotsman that comparison is quite offensive. I appreciate that both sports are based on rounders but as far as I can tell baseball cannot be considered civilised.

Anyone out there want to take this on for me #1919worldseries?

Scotland are playing the USA very soon in the cricket.

We can't all have Banger Trescothick at the helm!

'Somerset, la la-la la, Somerset la-la la-la la' (the ugly rumour is that Kieswetter is organising a putsch, the bounder!)

Sorry everybody but Daniel has touched a nerve, we shall retire to 'Meaningless Drivel'.

Thanks Derek.

Not much else to say really.

Somerset would always be my second team I must say but I feel unattached to my first team, Kent. The greatest tragedy ever to befall English cricket was Trescothick's depression.

We have a cricket team? Never knew that. I've never even heard of a high school here in the states that has a cricket team. I'm sure there is, just not exactly a popular sport here.

The very first international cricket match was played in New York!

I might be wrong but I thought it was more of an anxiety disorder. You do wonder how it would have changed the look of the English side, he could, in theory still be playing for England. Then would Cook be captain? I do wonder about Root up front, he looked so much happier a five.

News to me as well and I follow the game. But Daniel is such a snapper up of inconsidered trifles.

Should they graft a bolt onto Comptons neck to complete the effect?

We'll have a hard time. I think it might be drawn. Too many holes in our time, too much sitting around on our laurels after a very uneven Summer. I think you're right about Root; but Trott, Cook, Swann, KP are all arguably out of form. And also we've had no cricket - the Australians have been playing fairly constantly since the Summer (ODIs admittedly but at least it's practice). A draw perhaps?

Quite agree about laurels and the like. I understand that the Australian bowlers have some injuries which might help England. And whatever happened to Prior? The scoreline this summer rather flattered England. I am finding it a bit difficult to get too excited (as I usually do) due to the very quick turn around. Also rather jealous of my brother in law who is going to watch the opening test for flumpence when we are forced to remortgage the house to see a rainy day at Trent Bridge (noothing personal against TB you understand)

Not only do we have a team but last year managed to beat a Test playing nation(Bangladesh) in a T20 game. Richie Berrington made Scotlands first T20 century.

Ah but Scotland are nowhere as good as Ireland - aka the England youth team...

And the Dutch team has so many nationalities they play in English!

A couple of strong armed swipers and servers up of 'the one that goes straight on'? Twenty-twenty is next door to baseball IMHO.

Oh I agree about T20, I wouldn't watch it. But Ireland will be a Test team before 2020 (no pun intended) and they'll be better than some others..

Very true.

And it's good to be arguing the toss (no pun intended either) with you too.

I'm already getting emails about tickets for the Indian games next year. That'll be worth watching.

If you don't like T20 suspect you won't be happy with new format for ODIs, only 4 fielders alowed outside circle, recent series between India and Australia saw all sorts of records broken. Best tactics seem to be to keep wickets intact for 30 overs then it's T20 for the remainder.
