Why would you do that?

Talk about anything but keep it polite and reasonably clean.

Why would you do that?

Post by DRT »

A new thread intended to record things that are familiar to us that make no sense when given a moments thought...

Over the years there have been a number of King Kong movies released. In every one that I have seen (which I suspect is all of them) there is a village on an island with a high (60-100ft?) wall that is intended to keep the villagers safe from Kong, a 30ft high gorilla. In the wall in every movie there is a gate that takes 50 men to close (slowly) and is just the right size for a 30ft gorilla to fit through. :?

Attend a professional sporting event.

No really. Why? My family room is much more comfortable and warm. My big screen TV gives me a better view of the action. I get to see replays, and using my DVR I can re-watch the replays as often as I like. I don't have to worry about some idiot spilling beer on me or yelling in my ear. I have access to as much Port as I want. I have access to far better food than is available at a sports venue.

And it doesn't cost me $300 to watch the game.

A day at LORD'S would indeed be a great way to understand that there's much more to being at a professional sporting event than the professional sport. There's eating, drinking, chatting, laughing, sleeping, drinking, eating and drinking, just for starters.

I applied for tickets to two separate Tests this summer but haven't heard anything. The draw closed on the 6th. Mind you they're not the quickest. If I'm successful, I'll let you know!

EDIT: (I understand that jumping a plane from the Northeastern US to come and watch a game you barely understand may not be your idea of fun. I won't be offended if you decline.)

At which drinking port is very possible. They even sell their 'own' port in the member's bars!

Of course, the Quinta de la Rosa Reserve. Yes, I think you need to make time for this Glenn.

Berrys do a MCC port, which for no readily apparent reason always comes up on the vintage port list. Now why would you do that for a non vintage port?

Here's the link for those of you who cannot take my unsubstantiated word; http://www.bbr.com/region-4382-vintage-port see the second port down. Why?

The products listed on the BBR site appear to be assigned to categories. It seems that the MCC Port has been categorised as Vintage instead of Ruby. See relative hyperlinks in the attached images:

Why? I suspect human error.

I suspect the sinister power of the MCC, spreading confusion and panic, as is their wont. They can take our Ashes and give us ruby masquerading as vintage, but they can never take our FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!

Oh all right, it probably was just someone pushing the wrong button at Berrys.

I think we might get an outbreak of 'I'm Sparticus' like confessions regarding the MCC. Surely Alex has a stand named after him?

A new but related "why would you do that?" question!

Why would you lose by six runs when you were only 66 runs from victory and only 3 wickets down? Why? Why, oh why, oh why?

Why would they put on a Kurosawa season without doing Rachomon?

Seven Samuri was a blast though.

Catastrophic oversight?

Yes. Love that one.

Another fun weekend: Yojimbo, A Fistful of Dollars, and Last Man Standing. The third included more for amusement than anything else; it isn't bad, but it isn't up to the bar set by Yojimbo or A Fistful of Dollars.
