...Mrs Read expressed an interest in a glass of port! Tawny is all she really likes, so I pondered two options. A supermarket BOB or something a little nicer. I opened a Niepoort 20 YO - she had 3 glasses and the bottle is no more! Did I make a mistake? On the one hand she may be more open to the idea of a glass in the future. On the other, I may have to share the bottle with her!
As an aside, the Niepoort was lovely and I certainly need some more of it!

Look at it as an opportunity to open more bottles at the same time. You can hold mini tastings at home and Mrs. Read won't object. She might even encourage you to buy more to prevent too much depletion of stock!

Well she has good tastes, as that Niepoort is very good. But a double edge sword you've now created. You'll be drinking less from each bottle, but now you can use the excuse of buying more Port FOR HER to also enjoy

Of course not! Any chance to share something with your wife is good, particularly when it is something (else) that you love.

Or another plan could be the "Darling, you remember that port you enjoyed so much? I bought you a bottle for your birthday. It came in a lovely wooden box, and you wouldn't believe the deal they were offering - it was buy 1, get 11 free."
