Yes, it's asparagus (with melted butter).
Owen, I'm glad that you got me off the hook as "accidental quizmaster".

It's your turn now.

Passing over why this is such a suspiciously short question, if it was anyone but Andre I would question and probe.

My question is of philosophers and may hang around unloved for that reason.

Who was the author of the book that I relegated to the attic last week on the grounds that I had been looking at it for nearly 2 years without opening it?

As a special offer if after guessing the author you then go on to guess the title of the book the role of quizmaster will revert to me.

An excellent suggestion from Derek the Dry, Daniel would no doubt take the money and run but, no not Pliny, someone rather more recent.

No Andre, not Boethius, I like the cut of his jib though. It was one of your compatriots, not that this narrows the field much as they all seem to be.

As it is not my turn, I would like to amuse with a little interlude and refer to Monty Python's "Philosopher Football":

Oh please. The answer is obviously Martin Heidegger. Antonio Gramsci wasn't even German.

Sorry for the delay, Internet playing up, I think the wick in the engine went out.

No correct answer yet, Heidegger was on the opposing side in terms of his german-ness during the thirties.
