Euro 2016

Euro 2016

Post by DRT »

Is anyone here watching the Euros?

Wales are making a valiant effort to stay in Europe, despite their preference in last Thursday's vote. Portugal are waiting for Ronaldo to spring into action but are still clinging on like a grape skin on the side of a lagar. Germany missed their first penalty in a major tournament since 1982 and then went on to miss two more before beating the Italians. Iceland have covered every other country in a cloud of volcanic dust and are surreptitiously making their way to the final.

Possibly the most interesting football tournament I have seen in three decades.

Most of us here should now be learning these words in preparation for the final stages...

Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi,
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri;
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mad,
Dros ryddid collasant eu gwaed.

Gwlad, gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad.
Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i'r hen iaith barhau.

What fun it would be to see a Wales - Iceland final with Portugal beating Germany on penalties for 3rd place.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Some of us already know these words and have been singing them lustily :D

But we might struggle without Ramsey for the Portugal game...

That yellow for handball was harsh.

France has done as we should have. Our hopes are with Wales.

Lots of noise in my neighbourhood. Could it be anything to do with the Portuguese who live here? I think we should be told.

That looked extremely dull for quite a while. Thank God that, in a game between claret and port, the fortified wine won.
