A Quick Introduction

Post by KSC02 »

Per the suggestion from jdawl, I'm taking a quick moment to introduce myself. I've often considered joining this forum, prompted by the many fine postings made on the Wine Spectator Forum, by some of the members here. I just felt that now is as good a time as any.

While I don't consider myself a true 'Porthead' like many likely here, I do have a love for it indeed and enjoy a handful throughout the year. While I suppose I would consider the '77 Taylor Fladgate and the 77 Fonseca as my favorite Ports overall, I will be quick to admit that my exposure to Port is somewhat limited compared to other types of wine and I've not experienced some of the older greats nor some of the younger ones (some of which I do own, just let lay).

So, I respectfully say 'hello' and look forward to reading, conversing and, of course, sharing Ports in the future with several of you here. In the end, my endeavor is to humbly listen to so many here, soak in your recommendations and knowledge, learning more about this fine wine and possibly starting some great friendships.

Located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, I spend a lot of time back and forth to the States, for business and pleasure, and often get together with some very fine friends made on the other Forum. Wine is very social to me. To be paired with food and shared with friends. I look forward to meeting many of you here.

Cheers.

Hi KSC02,

Welcome to :tpf:

Is there another name by which we can address you?

Hi KSCO2

We look forward to sharing some ports - or at least some conversations about port - with you in the future.

From what little I know about the SAC, the fact that you have to travel frequently to the US must be a great help to the finances of indulging in fine wines and vintage ports!

Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Certianly, the SAQ is not known for their great pricing.
Bordeaux and Champagne are probably their worst offenses to this. Simply stratusphereic.
Italian and Rhone are the better pricings, with the rest falling somewhere in between.

For Port, the U.S. is certainly a great place to source, indeed.
The 'issue' is usually the 'official' 2 bottle limit Canada has to bring across the boarder.
It does create the need for creativity at times.

However, there are a handful of Port lovers in Canada. No shortage there.

Thanks for the welcome, Alex.
Been wanting to wander over to this neck of the woods for some time, after reading your posts and those of the others here that drop in on the WS Forum from time to time.
It feels like an extension of 'home', here. :)

You deny knowledge, and then claim as favourites T77 and F77. They are not at all bad favourites, especially the Fonseca. Good choices.

And welcome to :tpf:. We have tastings in NYC about once a month. Let us know when you are coming.

It'd be great to meet you g-man. You're welcome any time. Indeed, Summer is the best time to visit.

The 2 bottle limit applies to everyone, regardless of nationality.
Officially, anything outside of that depends on you claiming possesion and paying the duty, or taking the risk.
Your call.
