Liverpool Beer Festival 2014

Just walked past a sign for this by chance! The gods have smiled on me.

Should my pies be shallow and round like these, or long and deep as currently?

You were indeed lucky that the beer festival was on. I think that the form of a pie does not really matter. The main thing is that it tastes good, then the shape is irrelevant. So if the shape you use suits you best, stick to it.

I thought of you André, when we came into the Great Hall filled with tables like this - very like a Bierkeller. I agree that shape makes no difference technically or theoretically but we eat with the eye as well as the mouth. Your opinion is noted.

That’s an impressive looking beer festival. Is it in St George’s Hall? It makes me wonder why are so many in the South either in tents, a souless exhibition space or outside terrible pubs. I suppose a lack of serious interest!

Circular presumably has the advantage of making the amount of crust consistent when the pie is quartered...

It is indeed St. George's. We had an excellent time and at the end, a man dressed as Father Time came and called last orders, and at closing time a guy played that really well-known processional on the enormous pipe organ. Everyone was beaming. An excellent day.

I can imagine that you were beaming all right after this beer festival. :)
And what was your BOTD (Beer of the Day)?
