Andrews Liver Salts

Post by djewesbury »

This lifted me. It was as refreshing and flavoursome as a very nice biscuity champagne; in my condition I can well believe that there are autolytic notes. I might have drunk it a little too quickly, in my thirst.

EDIT: this was a 2014. My carer decided that the 2009 in the medicine cabinet was probably over the hill.

Coward. My father, doctor, PhD in tropical medicine, former GP, epidemiologist, with lots of letters after the name, is very clear about out-of-date medicines.

• If it is a living thing such as yeast to settle a stomach then don’t take it if it much more than a year past the date.

• For pharmaceuticals, ignore the problem if it is less than five years past.

• But if it is between five and ten years past, it might have faded a bit: up the dose by 20%.

• Beyond ten years, well, unless things are really urgent, get new.

Useful information. We still have the old. Maybe I'll have a vertical later.

(This seems to be gastric flu, and is now working its way through the house. Carer struck down. Send emergency supplies.)

EDIT: The origin of this advice is interesting, as I have heard it said that in Wisemans the opposite effect can be seen (namely, a slight dilution with each successive issue).

Does this mean you need a new carer or that you need extra supplies of ALS to treat your now useless carer?

My first instinct would be to send Port. That's what "emergency supplies" usually means around here.

Given the plague affecting the destination, however, I wouldn't send anything fancy. Just something to carry them through.

I can send 8 bottles of Real Vinicola 1983 and 11 bottles of Offley Boa Vista 1972. They won't be able to taste them, which is a plus, but they might not survive the experience.
