Whisky in London - 29 May 2012

Post by DRT »

A summary:

JDAW and DJ started at the Malt Whisky Society in Farringdon at 13:30. DJ remembered to depart around 15:00 to catch a flight to Venice. DRT joined JDAW at 15:40. JDAW was thoughtful enough to phone DJ two minutes before his train reached Gatwick to ensure he was awake. Ten shots later JDAW and DRT repaired to the Bleeding Heart for beer and cigars. Five pints later (and following much discussion about the merits Brick Lane curry) JDAW and DRT consumed lots of man food at the Bleeding Heart. At approximately 21:00 JDAW went home to ensure he was fully alert for whatever task tomorrow will bring.

A very good way to spend a Wednesday afternoon.

JDAW's ministrations were extremely generous. However, I missed the Laphroaig.. What number was it?
My favourite of the several I had time to try 76.88, Mortlach, 58.5% matured in bourbon cask. A lovely smokey chocolate nose, and a really lively mouthfeel. We also discovered that the Society occupies the building in Leith where a D63 that I own was bottled.

While JDAW and DRT continued, I enjoyed a half of Sandeman Vau 00 from JDAW's double magnum.. A tasting note follows in the appropriate place..

I think it would be rather nice to drink this in the building where it was bottled, on its (roughly) 50th birthday.
Anyone?

I am too impatient to wait until 2015.
