Fake port can be an expensive matter, but not on the scale of fake whisky...

Two things stand out for me in that article.

1. Someone bothered to fake a 100-year old bottle of whisky 25 years ago. Though I suppose that does actually make some sense since I'm getting old and 25 years ago isn't as long ago as I think it is.

2. The hotel performed the investigation and voluntarily refunded the customer without the customer even knowing there was a problem. Now that is customer service! I can only hope that someday I have the chance to visit the Waldhaus am See and taste some whisky to support their business.

It seems many BBC articles are on a 12 month recycle...

Fake whisky again. Or perhaps good PR by Rare Whisky 101.

Self-promoting drivel.

18 bottles of suspected fake whisky tested, 2/3 proven fake, story spun as 2/3 rare whiskies must be fake.

All rare whisky should be carbon-dating-tested, says a person who is purported to get a commission from the company doing the carbon-dating testing.

But draw your own conclusions...

Fake whiskies are a huge problem - I would never buy old Macallan's from someone I don't trust - and even then only with max caution.
I do know Claudio (Bernasconi), the owner myself. He is a really passionate and generous guy. As he handled the case speaks for it self.
