1997 Grange

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep red with a hint of bricking, 95% opaque. Dusty nose, full of purple fruit but with an added complexity of flowers and tropical fruits. Soft entry, silky and slightly reluctant. A pleasant mouthfeel then robust, chalky tannins come through. There is a touch of wateriness to the texture but the flavours are complex and reward patience by delivering fruit and flowers in abundance. The chewy aftertaste is typical of Grange and it fades quickly to leave a long and delicious fruit-led finish. This is really great wine, although I think the 2003 will be better in the end. 94/100. Drunk 27-Mar-15.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
