2009 Optima

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

From Anthonij Rupert in Franschoek. A blend of Cab Sauv, Merlot and Cab Franc. Deep red, still youthful looking. More restrained on the nose that some other wines tasted this evening but showing blackcurrant and cedar. Also restrained on entry but then bringing delicious fruit on the mid-palate. More fruit-forward and less tannic in structure that the Synchronicity shown alongside and with a delicious lingering finish. 90/100. Drunk 25-Mar-15.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
