2011 Quinta do Vesuvio

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Matured for 14 months in 400 and 225 litre french oak barrels. Deep red, opaque and still with youthful purple in the rim. Sweet red licorice on the nose, herbaceous and fresh. Fresh blackcurrant fruit on the palate, floral layering gives a lovely complexity. Powerful tannins give a strong structure and dry teeth, but the tannins never dominate the fruit. Fruit and flowers dominate the aftertaste and finish. The finish lasts for ages. This is a great red wine with a good future. 92/100. Drunk 24-Feb-15.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
