2011 Chryseia

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

2,500 cases produced. Deep red in colour with an opaque centre and a dark, cherry-red coloured rim. A surprising element of almond paste lurks under the fruit on the nose - very unexpected. There is a harsh element to the fruit on the palate and powerful tannins. Patience on the palate allows the fruit to come through to match the levels of the tannins. Fragrant fruit leads the aftertaste with chewy green woodstems on the finish but with a wonderful lifted fruit component. 91/100. Drunk 24-Feb-15.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
