Anything but Port, this includes all wines other than fortified wines (which have their own section) even if they call themselves Port. There is a search facility for this part of the forum.

1988 Gruaud Larose

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep red colour but in the early stages of maturity, 90% opaque. An incredible barnyard nose, really strongly developed. Slow and reluctant on entry but the palate is slow and powerful with heavy concentration and very vigorous tannins. Slightly too little fruit to balance the tannins but a great palate presence. A lovely chewy aftertaste and finish. Reminds me how much I love claret! Served blind I guessed this to be Cos d'Estournel 1989. 92/100. Drunk 10-Apr-15 as part of the Doty Cup.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
