Anything but Port, this includes all wines other than fortified wines (which have their own section) even if they call themselves Port. There is a search facility for this part of the forum.

1985 Nuit St Georges "Les Pruliers" from Henri Gouges

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Modest red colour, mature and with a brick-red rim. Mature on the nose but younger smelling that the Girardin 1985 shown alongside, but still with a distinct farmyard and dirty fruit smell. Some sweetness of fruit on the palate and with gentle tannins in support. Quite lifted and elegant overall. This develops really well on the palate and has good presence and goo fragrance. The aftertaste is big and leads to a hugely long finish that is full of flavour. Very impressive indeed. Served blind this was guessed to be a pinto noir from a good vintage but perhaps not a French one - maybe an Oregon pinot from the early nineties? 91/100. Drunk 10-Apr-15 as part of the Doty Cup.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
