1985 Casanova di Neri

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Mature appearance with a brown tone. Empty on the nose, just some faint fruit flavours. Lovely entry, full of sweet fruit and soft tannins that give a delicious balance and structure with plenty of mature leathery tones. The tannins are fully resolved on the finish, which has really lovely poise and great maturity of flavours that merge to deliver a lovely orange-based and black chocolate finish of great length. Served blind this was guessed to be a sangiovese based wine, perhaps a Chianti from 1978. (Note that Casanova di Neri is a sangiovese Brunello di Montalcino.) 94/100. Drunk 10 April 2015 as part of the Doty Cup.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
