2011 Weingut Lothar Kettern Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese

Post by djewesbury »

Drunk at the Lothar Kettern winery with winemaker Philipp Kettern on the 13th August 2014. We visited at the recommendation of Dirk Niepoort.

We were the first to taste this, the day after it had been filtered. At approximately 550 g/L residual sugar this is quite the sweetest wine I've ever tasted. It is liquid honey, with an apricot note. It's heady and rich and quite unbelievable. It's unctuous, but not unapproachable, and amazingly it's not at all oily, but has great cleanness.

Philipp was extremely generous and led us round his cellar taking samples of his 2013s for us to taste (notes are not extensive, unfortunately). A winemaker to watch out for.

I didn't take a note. I only remember that this really was liquid honey.
