2012 Weingut Lothar Kettern Goldtröpfchen Riesling Spätlese

Post by djewesbury »

Drunk at the Lothar Kettern winery with winemaker Philipp Kettern on the 13th August 2014. We visited at the recommendation of Dirk Niepoort.

Very light, greenness from the non-oxidative pressing used; the oxidation takes place in barrel. The nose is quiet, butter and some woodiness. The sweetness is fantastic, but the acidity cuts through. This is full and round, but then slatey, with a really great clean finish.

I noted this in my little black book: "nice body, nice aroma of apricots, a good Spätlese, a really good wine".
