Drunk at the Loosen winery with Ernest Loosen and Sales Manager Désirée Schröder on 13th August 2014.
The oldest part of the Treppchen vineyard in Erden, a small plot above the more famous Prälat vineyard, goes to make this 'alte reben' or 'old vine' wine. The plot has a high elevation and is exposed, which means that no botrytis develops and the grapes grow in loose bunches; the microclimate means that very small, unpollinated, seedless grapes are produced. Soil is red slate.
This has the red slate 'warmth' of the Rotschiefer wine. The minerality is given roundness and some subdued spice. Very pleasant wine, less austerity.

I found this note in my little black book: "nice herbal nose, a rather fat body, not much acidity, didn't like it much"
