2012 Dr. Loosen Graacher Riesling Trocken

Post by djewesbury »

Drunk at the Loosen winery with Ernest Loosen and Sales Manager Désirée Schröder on 13th August 2014.

All the Loosen vineyards are 'Grand Cru' quality in the VDP's classification, so they have to 'declassify' their grapes in order to produce estate and village wines (this is one of the mid-range 'Ortsweine' or village wines). Aged in 3000 litres 'fuders'; stays on the yeast in the barrel for 12 months.

Rich. Really very elegant, full of rich, ripe minerality. Balanced with the woody roundness. This lingers in the bottom of the palate.

I found this note in my little black book: "fat nose, rather fat body, not much acidity". I also noted "ungrafted". I think they mentioned that the vines for this wine were not grafted.
