1990 Allesverloren Reserve Port (South Africa)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

A tasting note taken on 1 August 2005
2-3 hours decanting time. Very watery look in the glass, but quite viscous and with plenty of legs. Colour was a very brown shade of red - reminded me of the colour of diluted plum cordial. On the nose was a wonderful bouquet of walnuts and figs with hints of marmalade. In the mouth it was all dried figs and raisins - tasted like a tawny rather than a VP. Alcohol was well integrated and the finish was a decent length, but not as long as I would hope. Overall, a very enjoyable example of a first class South African VP. 91/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
