This is the house port of the Butcher's Shop and Grill in Johannesburg. It is made by Anton Bredell, who also bottles and sells ports under his own name.
Young and ruby colour. A surprising amount of sediment in the bottle.
A nose of blueberries and a bit of unintegrated alcohol but the fruit dominates and smells good. In the mouth it is silky and balanced, with some rich figgy and prune flavours over the top of some cream and custard trifle, really pleasant. The aftertaste is a good length and is made up of Christmas Cake mix but is just a touch short to be great.
Really enjoyable and a great option at the equivalent of £6 for an imp. Highly recommended as an accompaniment to Kudu steak with mushroom sauce.
6/6 or 90/100
