Further to recent Musar discussions during our Virtual Tastings, have just been sent an offer by Fine + Rare for two 90th Anniversary tasting cases.

One bottle each of the 60, 74, and 79 for £1,188 DP + VAT

Somewhat more accessible is one bottle each of 97, 98, 00, 03, 08, and 09 for £210 DP + VAT

Also worth repeating that Berry's still have the two bottle 1989 case. This has one bottle each of Musar White and a special carignan only Red. This is £175 retail.

The “more accessible” one sounds quite tempting, especially since when I periodically stock up on the Hochar from Majestic it usually comes in at £20-25 a bottle.

We were given the 1989 box as a present: I’m waiting for the lockdown to end so we can have a nice dinner party to drink them, even though I am a little suspicious about the staying power of a 31-year-old Lebanese white.

The whites will last 30 years and are usually better off for it. It is a very diff White than anything else out there. I love them with age, some do not. Don’t drink it too cold, cellar temp at most is best. And Mr Hochar usually serves the white after the red that’s how awesome it is.

That's interesting. Thanks. I'd assumed it was much too hot for decent whites. Would you give them both a decant? (And if so, how long?).

At least an hour for the old white. 2-3 is better.

Consumed one of the 1989 cases at Christmas, alongside a bottle of the "normal" 1989 Red.

I preferred the Carignan to the Red, but suspect this was mainly due to the bottle condition. The star however was the White - spectacularly good, and no rush to drink up.

This thread has encouraged me to open a Hochar 2003. Very savoury with quite a lot of soft tannins; good acidity; a stack of umami; some lively spiciness; and a very long aftertaste. I think this was about £25 from Majestic- you'd be hard pressed to find another table wine as good as this for that money from a high street wine merchant.

I’m currently drinking the 97 and 98. Both excellent, and agree that the pricing is a bargain.
