Anything but Port, this includes all wines other than fortified wines (which have their own section) even if they call themselves Port. There is a search facility for this part of the forum.

1985 Mont Blois Muskadel Pomphuis

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

From the Hoopsrivier Ward of Robertson. A fortified white muscadelle which the family have made for many years but which they stopped bottling (and sold on to other wineries) in 1985. This vintage is not for sale but was being shown to allow buyers to know how these wines would mature in the bottle.

An astonishing colour - the colour of mint humbugs! The mint comes through strongly on thenose , very pronounced. Surprisingly sweet on the palate with none of the mint which was promised by the nose, but lots of caramel and soft toffee with hints of coffee. A creamy combination, like creme brulee. A flash of acidity on the aftertaste before a sweet caramel finish with a great length. A wonderful opportunity to see what the 2016 vintage will turn into with 30 years in the bottle. 89/100. 11-Oct-17.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
