Mon 18 May - A dinner with some winemakers

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

CMAG and I were in the right place at the right time to receive a last minute invitation to join some winemakers in London for the London and other Wine Fairs. We tasted some terrific wines, the line-up included Nicolas Feuillate 2000 vintage Champagne, two South African Chenin Blancs, Niepoort Redoma 2013, Chateau Bouscaut 1959, Aloxe Corton 1961 from A Ligeret (my unfortified wine of the night!), Cotes Blonde 2006 by Rene Rostaing, Barbaresco Cru Montestefano 1964 from Prunotto (sadly corked), Riecine 2011 from Tuscany, Contra Soarde 2012 from Veneto, Post Quercus Baga 2013 from Barraida, Fuligni (believed) 1997 from Chianti and a Gould Campbell 1963.

For me the Gould Campbell was the wine of the night but I was so impressed by the Aloxe-Corton. I don't like Pinot Noir so what was I doing rating this higher than any other unfortified wine.

A tasting note of the Gould Campbell will appear in due course.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

It’s a hard-knock life for us! But not for you, tonight.
