An excellent evening with many good Ports. The Ni77 was a worthy winner, but the closeness of 2nd to 5th places (GM64, Cá60, GB70, GB67) fairly indicated the breadth of good drinking.

Separately, this time it wasn’t my totalling that went wrong. I identified the GM64 as GM, and the Ni77 as ’77, but have been credited with only a single point.

Now that you mention it, several people guessed GM and did not get their point - due wholly to my complete overexcitement at having correctly guessed shipper and year and making sure I got my own 2 points recorded :D

I shall update the sheet and re-post it!

A great evening! We had the pleasure of welcoming Henry as a guest and Jon to his first offline :D

A selection of ports which took us away from the usual suspects, which was great fun no real duds among them. Very interesting to hear Henry share some insights on vintages and production. And most importantly, for the first time ever I managed a correct shipper/vintage guess :D :D

Thoroughly enjoyed it, even though I spent the majority of the evening totally flummoxed by the ports.

I have come to the conclusion (again) that I need to drink more. All in the name of research of course.

Steward's enquiry complete. Revised "What is it?" scoring as below. I gave no points to guesses for JWEW's bottle, as nobody got year or shipper, and guessing the style is hardly worthy of an award!

Congratulations to Jon for an unheard of 5 points!

It was a splendid evening with good company, good port and attentive service. Henry has emailed his thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

I loved most of the ports which we tasted and was surprised at the fact that two different Gonzalez Byass vintages turned up. How often have we done that?
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Belatedly, my thoughts from the evening. I really liked the Boot & Flogger as a venue, tilting table excepted! I really enjoyed all of the ports - and it was nice to have such a wide selection and universally sound to excellent bottles. How often have we had a dud amongst a 12+ line up? My favourite quote of the evening goes to Daniel, in response to my question about what he had done on his day in London. His response? "I have created new knowledge"! How apt for a university lecturer! In my own small way, I hope I have done the same for AHB...

Nice to see you all again / meet some new forum faces and of course get the chance to meet Henry Shotton, Malvedos being one of my own personal favourite bottlings.
