Another day in Paradise

Well there are these days, when you - even before it happens - thought: you have seen it all.
I was invited to a private function South of Port via Dirk to a private Port- and wine lover. Everyone in the room - except me - was permanently living in Portugal, so - guess what: the language was Portuguese all over. But: since you can guess many things, it went allright. The topic was "A Niepoort vertical - very exciting since the last Niepoort vertical(s) that I attended were almost ten years ago and these bottles become extremely rare.
So the day started with perfect bottles of 1942 (yes, the Literbottle), 1945, 1960, 1963, 1966 and 1970 - unfortunately the 55 did not show top, but extremely drinkable as well. After this Dirk very discretely sneaked in a 27 as well.
We then had the 1912 and 1900 Colheita, the old VV and a Garrafeira 48 for desert and since Antonio Agrellos - the former winemaker of Noval - arrived a bit late and told the organiser, what a great year 48 is, he also opened a bottle of Grahams 48 - just to compare with the Garrafeira.
In the end someone told a nice story about the 63 NN, which he then also quickly picked up from the cellar and everyone had a glass of this as well.
Well, if Groundhog day ever occures to me, this would be my day. Accompanied by sunny weather and the typical outstanding portuguese hospitality...
Well, maybe I have seen it all, but the host already has plans to celebrate 1945 next year and 1927 and....
Porto is always worth a visit!
PS: I almost forgot about the non-fortifieds: Fantastic bottles of Krug Grand Cuvee and Charme and Batuta 2004 along with Coche and Redoma Reserve 17.
