Thu 24 Nov 2016 - Berry Brothers Annual Port Walk

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

On Thursday 24th November a number of TPF members attended the annual Berry Brothers Port Walk in the Pickering Cellar of their St James's shop. Charles Symington was there to present the wines, which were predominantly from Symington Family Estates. There were 16 vintage Ports shown plus a small number of other ports that I did not have the time to try. I managed to take notes of the following wines:
  1. 1994 Cockburn
  2. 1980 Dow
  3. 1977 Graham
  4. 1983 Graham
  5. 1985 Graham
  6. 1994 Quarles Harris
  7. 1980 Smith Woodhouse
  8. 1992 Taylor (bottle 1)
  9. 1992 Taylor (bottle 2)
  10. 2000 Taylor
  11. 2009 Taylor
  12. 1995 Quinta do Vesuvio
  13. 1997 Quinta do Vesuvio
  14. 1970 Warre
  15. 1983 Warre
  16. 1985 Warre
  17. 1994 Warre
A few of us then retired for dinner to the Oxford and Cambridge Club where we drank a bottle of 1985 Fonseca.

As usual the Port Walk was excellently organised if a little busy and the walk through the cellars to get to the Pickering Cellar allowed many interesting trophy (empty) bottles to be admired.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
