Tasting events in the next 3 months

Post by flash_uk »

There are some dates already in the diary for events in the next 3 months, but not enough dates. So far:

Sun 15th Feb (London) Lunch at Simpson's in the Strand
Mon 2nd Mar (London) Henry Shotton Visits London
Fri 10th Apr (London) The Third Doty Cup Challenge
Sun 17th May (New York) Atonal Music and Port Drinking in New York City

If I were to suggest a few additional dates as follows (theme to be determined later), then could people vote here, selecting all those dates that are OK for you.

Thurs 26 March
Thurs 16 April (perhaps too soon after the Doty Cup?)
Tuesday 5 May (night before BFT)
Thursday 21 May

If these all turn out to be rubbish options, then we can rethink.

Ok, I'll stick my head above the parapet first-these dates work for me in principal, although I have a feeling that Thursday's may not work for everyone.

We’ve all been rubbish at replying to your enthusiasm. For my rubbishness, apologies.

Anyway, all four of these currently good for me.

Don't forget to respond on doodle.

Mike - good initiative. I'll be in the "tentative" camp for all of them at the moment; I note you only allowed yes/no on doodle (a utility I find very handy for organising, but I always have to add the "tentative/maybe" option) so I've said "yes" to them for now.

The night before the BFT works best for me. The others are unlikely.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Ditto. I have said so on Doodle, would an admin like to transfer that poll to a BBCode poll here?

No. Then there would be two polls — are you coming out of the closet as an SNP supporter?

The trouble is that Mike's poll is not here, and participants in that poll aren't necessarily posting here. Room for confusion. Allowing the poll to be hosted here would amalgamate everything and keep it neat and tidy. I like neat and tidy and so do you. I know that.

All people replying here have (now) replied on doodle. Some have only replied on doodle. No confusion - the poll is on doodle.

FIne. Don't blame me when you find yourselves outsourced to a cheaper provider.

did someone call my name?

Two polls are fine. We just pick the result we like best.

See? Is this what you want, Kim Jung Turnbull rigging the results?

Anyway there is apparently a Fonseca bicentennial tasting the night before the BFT and I for one would like to know why our excellent contacts within TFP wouldn't extend a few invites to that.

Are you suggesting that a theme for our tasting on May 3 should be "The Best of the Fonseca Bicentennial Commemoration Tastings of May"? I wonder how good a Fonseca vertical we could put together?

Sounds like a plan-you can even drink Fonseca when there isn't an 'r' in the month :D

A good job; a period of four months every year with no Fonseca drinking allowed would be terrible! Is there a word for "too many Fonseca verticals"? No, and clearly for good reason.

Some suspicious names have appeared in the voting. Perhaps the returning officer could just invent a result and declare it to be democratically reached.

A separate thread has been created for the March 26 tasting.

I will now also set up a thread for the pre BFT evening. Sounds like Fonseca would be a good theme!
