1970's in NY -- 15 July 2011 - The MIA get together
Re: 1970's in NY -- 15 July 2011 - The MIA get together
AMK, aforementioned, suggests Nonna, 520 Columbus Ave at 85th Street. She might have a contact to help all-evening booking.

Re: 1970's in NY -- 15 July 2011 - The MIA get together
first- thx to gman and mrs gman for opening up their home this past weekend to me- u are very brace!!!!
Sorry sushi but I may need to side with gman in regards to the apples to apples game
third tbird will be missed
fourth I have green light for attending the offline.
the uncle jacks rate was specailly negotiated for the cdp weekend, they will charge corkage to most if not all. Not having corkage worked as we had about 1.7 bottles per attendee!

Nothing superior was easily located, and Sarabeth's looks good. I figured we should at least take a second look if we were going for $10 corkage, but this seems a sensible selection -- thank you for finding it and making the reservation. Please confirm they understand we tend to take our time (2.5-3 hrs) and will bring our own stemware/etc for setting up. We can open the bottles, too, but if they have a few decanters they would be appreciated.Chris Doty wrote:I'm not married to Sarabeth's by any means, and would be happy to cancel if we find something superior.
A large party with a lot of demands on a friday night (albeit in the summer) might be a bit tricky to accommodate, I fear
I will bring:
F1970
72 glasses (2 cases)
2 funnels
10 coffee filters, and my metal coffee filter (which aids in decanting speed)
3 cork screws
Placemats, tasting notes, and decanter labels
Possibly, my wife (who doesn't drink)

Sounds good Sushi.
I will confirm w/ Sarabeth's tomorrow, and will try to confirm with Greg and Malda that they are still able/willing to attend.

Sounds good. I'll bring the Dow and the Taylor to cover myself and Terry, and then we'll find a bottle for Greg to bring if he can still make it.
Should be a great lineup!

Re: 1970's in NY -- 15 July 2011 - The MIA get together
Update -- turns out I'll only be +2 (Greg and Terry) as Malda (Greg's wife) is unable to attend.
Again, we'll plan on bringing the Dow, the Taylor, and then a third bottle that I'm going to try to source from Sushi (as I have given up trying to find what I thought was my last bottle of W70).
I just got off the phone with the manager of Sarabeth's, who seems cool with our hogging a table (or two) and being somewhat slow and loud (I told her we would compensate the staff in a manner that was commensurate with the size and complexity of our demands).
Looking forward to it!

You New Yorkers need training.
A very splendid evening for two of you. OK, maybe three, but a three not too thirsty.g-man wrote:Fonseca 1970

That is five men, one drinking damsel and one in-distress damsel. This plan needs several bottles of repair.g-man wrote: Chris

haha Julian,
it was 102 in NY yesterday and there's something to be said about sweating port in work clothes while taking an hour and a half to commute home.
That and I have to wake up at 7am to head out to philly the next day.

Re: 1970's in NY -- 15 July 2011 - The MIA get together
OK folks, time for a quick poll. I happen to have Cockburn and Warre's 1970 which could be brought to this tasting. Cockburn would be an interesting lower house to consider, Warre pretty much completes the top tier of 1970's ports. I know a few of you don't yet have a Port that you're bringing to this tasting.
Question 1) Should we add more ports to this tasting, and if so, which?
Question 2) Should we handle the cost of this tasting by adding up the bottles and dividing evenly amongst drinkers, or by everyone bringing a similarly priced bottle?
(sadly I've no idea where the 2 sandeman 70s in my inventory are, we probably drank them at a different tasting)

Re: 1970's in NY -- 15 July 2011 - The MIA get together
I entirely agree.
I think each person should try to bring a bottle. It seems like my party needs one extra (currently three drinkers / two bottles), and I don't know if Different Dave has anything in his stock, or if he'll need to source as well.
My suggestion, then, would be to have sushi sell either the Warre or the Croft to me to complete my line up, and the other bottle to dave for his contribution (sushi already bringing the F70, and G-man the G70).
That would leave us with 6 drinkers (sushi, Gman, DDave, Greg, Terry, Chris) and 6 bottles (Graham, Fonseca, Dow, Warre, Croft), which seems like an entirely respectable friday night affair. right?
Also -- my non-drinker (malda) has had to withdraw, so the placemats may need to be revised. I believe at present our party is 6 (though I'll likely try to leave the reservation for 8, both to make sure we have enough space, and to leave room in case we have some latecomers.

I'll look through my mess of a cellar again
i recalled a cockburn 1970 in my spreadsheet but i don't recall which box i put it in.
if i find it, I'll bring that instead of the g70 and you can still bring the g70 if you want chris.
otherwise i'll stick with the g70.

You asked.SushiNorth wrote:Suggestions welcome
• When making placemats, please start with the latest version. You are using a mid-March version of the code.
• Delete the multiple redundant copies ‟Vintage Port”.
• Rename the extra person to blank ‟()” rather than XX.
•Â If having placenames, consider the merits of using names ‟Josh S.” rather than ‟JES”.
• Consider using the non-US brand name ‟Taylor” rather than the US version, to which an extra space was added, ‟Taylor Fladgate ”.
