Virtual Anniversary - June 20th

Post by SushiNorth »

June 20th, a Saturday, will be the 2nd anniversary of The Port Forum, correct? We ought to do something to celebrate. Last year was "open your rank." As the ranks have remained the same* list of bottles, perhaps we should try a different theme?

And, though this is a virtual, would anyone like to join me in NYC to drink virtually together?

same* - another alternative is to make a new list for 2009-2010 based in part on what people want to open for the 2nd anniversary :) Or perhaps just a new jumble and we'll see what we get heh. I, for one, would like to finally get into the VPs and out of tawny/lbv hell :)

Post more. :P

Seriously though, good idea. I think we can manage to join a virtual offline.

I'd forgotten about our anniversary. I completely agree that we should celebrate it in some way and a virtual offline seems the most appropriate way possible.

Last year's theme worked quite well, but I'd be very happy to support a much looser theme like "Open something for fun" where you can open whatever you like. Scozzy can open his Niepoort 1952 or his Hunter Valley Shiraz "port", Derek can open everything he can get his hands on since he's been working so hard and deserves a break, I can open the new tinfoil wrapped bottle of Unknown 2007 that arrived this morning.

But whatever we do, we should make it a date.

Anyone know if we can conference call through Skype or something similar? It would be quite amusing to actually see each other in a virtual offline.

Well, it’s about 18 months since I drank the Warre’s Optima, but I’m not madly keen on buying another bottle so I’ll go along with Alex’s suggestion! :)

Sitting down now to decant the Quevedo 04 lbv after a shredded rear tire meant a 4 mile walk in the rain with my bike... :crying:
Anyone else online and drinking?

It's now 9:15.... in Cayman... and the fact that yesterday was Father's Day and that tomorrow will be my birthday inspired me to open the bottle of Noval's Colheita 1995 a few minutes ago... Happy Birthday, TPF! All the best to you all! This Forum has become really important to me, and everyday I stop at least once by to read what has been posted. The knowledge that this group has is just fantastic!

A reminder, seeing as we all missed it last year.

I could be persuaded by a London-based "non-virtual" anniversary tasting.

IIRC, we do this only in odd-numbered years. 2009, ’11, and next ’13.

If I can recall my skype-account name, I'd be interested to take part as well!
Should we arrange a specific time at which we all try to be online?

would you prefer another medium jdaw?

I figure skype might be the easiest.

I should be able to log in 9pm BST and share a glass or two and NY 9PM EST to kill the rest of the bottle

I have a cockburn 91 I'm interested in seeing how its developing that will be on deck

I think my skype contact email is jhg206 at nyu dot edu

I have not much in the house. I might open a 96 Vesuvio, or a 94 Dow.. What time are people expecting to be online? Has anyone actually seen a group of this many people work on Skype? I presume we're not all going to be sitting there with our video cameras on. That would be too painful.

There used to be photo here of 8 or so people online for "International Port Day" [which in the fine-print it emerged was restricted to America] - doesn't show up on my computer now unfortunately.

i celebrated early with WS1 tonight, but will try to activate Skype for 9.00pm tomorrow
