1970 Horizontal when Jdaw is in the UK
Admin Note: The first 8 posts in this thread were split out from the Introduction from Ben Read in order to raise attention to the arrangement of another stellar TPF Off-line.
Ben,
The mental calculation tells me that you were born (hopefully for a port lover) in 1970, possibly 1969.
Were you born in 1970? If so, I can see an excuse coming along for an offline involving as many vintage ports from 1970 as we can get our hands on...

It was indeed 1970! To date I have managed just one bottle of 1970, some years ago on my birthday in The Wine Library, Trinity Square. Unfortunately I cannot recall the house.
A nice idea when the opportunity arises. I would be keen.
It also raises a question that I may post eslewhere for more general debate - what should I lay down for my son, due to be born this year? A good subject for debate I think!

Wait!
Wait! You can’t do a 1970 horizontal until I’m in the country. I’m an admin, so I make the rules. (Errr, well, you know, err hello KillerB, err, something. Anyway, those are the rules.)
In the UK I have 1970:

Agreed. I'm also an Admin so that's two Admin's to one so it's definately a rule.jdaw1 wrote:Wait! You can’t do a 1970 horizontal until I’m in the country. I’m an admin, so I make the rules. (Errr, well, you know, err hello KillerB, err, something. Anyway, those are the rules.)

Sadly, I think you may have blown your chances of having KillerB agree with you through your spelling of "definately".Derek T. wrote:Agreed. You know you were warned...
In my cellar, I have a single bottle of port from the 1970 vintage. It is Fonseca. However, I'm happy to adopt or acquire.
I'm also a little worried that we may rush into this tasting rather precipitously and try to arrange it for Julian's coming trip to the UK in May. If so, I will likely not be able to attend for the reasons previously mentioned which have led to my hosting of the 1980 horizontal
I therefore petition that since we have already given JDAW an event to look forward to in May (The Most Modest Ever 1980 Horizontal Tasting?), that we should save the 1970 tasting for a later visit. We've seen how eagerly he reacted to the suggestion - if we wait for his next visit then he has an incentive to be invited to speak at another seminar in London sooner rather than later.

That was my intention — I second AHB’s petition.AHB wrote:I therefore petition that since we have already given JDAW an event to look forward to in May (The Most Modest Ever 1980 Horizontal Tasting?), that we should save the 1970 tasting for a later visit.
