Given that you don’t have to share it with the rest of us, what harm is there in starting (a bit) early?

I suppose that would give me a chance to right a full and proper tasting note between now and when we finish our tasting.

Mine decanted 1300 today- an advantage of working at home is that decanting at crack of dawn before going to work is not a logistical necessity.

For the record, please could people post what it was they were drinking last night. I opened a bottle of Dixon’s Double Diamond 10 Year Old Tawny and sent sample bottles to those I could. I also drank a (magnificent) Vesuvio 1994 at home.

Yes, a most enjoyable evening. My Quinta do Vale Dona Maria 2000 was quite a pleasant drink.

I desperately wanted to join in, but since I'm officially working from home and it would have been during the middle of my work day I felt it best not to. That plus I don't have a camera on my computer so wouldn't have been able to fully participate anyway.

Sounds like a great way to hold a virtual tasting, though! I may steal the idea...

A fabulous evening! For anyone else thinking about this format I thoroughly recommend. Worked best I think, because we all knew each other well beforehand. The real "ah-ha" for me, was that we spent far more time actually talking to each other rather than concentrating on tasting 14 different glasses of port.

I was tasting a lovely FG87.

It was enormous fun. I must confess it was my first video-conference on Zoom ever (although I have had three more today, two of which also involved cats intruding, although neither in my view as fine as Charles's). I got to meet (virtually) Simon for the first time, which was great, and our intended guest for the original tasting (Joao) also kindly joined us for a while. And I slept for ten hours afterwards, which in these difficult times is an achievement, and which has today allowed me the mental bandwidth to solve a knotty problem on a very big case. I am also grateful for the tolerance shown to my rabbiting on about aeroplanes past.

I drank a quite pleasant sample from AHB of the Dixon's Double Diamond, and rather more than half of a slightly disappointing 1983 Taylor, the remainder of which was better this evening, having filled out a little. Days-long decant for this one required, as per uncle tom's warning from years back.

As Mike says, there was far more time talking with each other than concentrating on the ports. The varied a wide range of topics was most entertaining, and by no means was dominated by the Covid Cloud. Thanks to Alex for his Dixon’s DD sample. I am glad to have tasted it but it was no match for a Maynard’s 10YO tawny I had open at the same time, although maybe it is unfair to judge a film canister sample that has arrived only hours before by Royal Mail, so I will keep an open mind until sampled again.
