Port, ≤1972, from THRA’s cellar
Re: Port, ≤1972, from THRA’s cellar
At the tasting for Victoria’s 200th, THRA told me that he would like to arrange a tasting. He envisages that he will pick from his cellars a selection of Ports, none from after 1972 and some from materially earlier, to be sold to the team at £100 a bottle (hence £100 a head).
Help was needed with the arranging, for which I volunteered.
Tom: when?

Tom: when?

Yes, please. Will attand if possible.
Re: Port, ≤1972, from THRA’s cellar
Sounds interesting; in addition to "when?", also where? (London or Saffron Walden-ish?)
Re: Port, ≤1972, from THRA’s cellar
Yes please, an interesting idea. I'm sure Tom has some interesting bottles in his stash! Thanks.

I’ve added people in order of acceptance, and that’s fifteen. so WPS is on the reserve list — but whatever the date, somebody won’t be able to come, so first reserve is almost a sure thing.

Tuesday 17th December? A special tasting to welcome in Christmas.
Re: Port, ≤1972, from THRA’s cellar
We allready have 2 tastings in June.
July / Aug empty currently empty thus possible but hot / holidays.
Sep - We have the 66 tasting
Thus how about early October?

Re: Port, ≤1972, from THRA’s cellar
Have just drafted a provisional list - I'm assuming people would like this to be blind.
To make it a little more fun, I've got 14 different vintages and 14 different producers..

How about semi blind and know the vintages

Re: Port, ≤1972, from THRA’s cellar
I'd be ok with July, or Somewhere in Oct 1-10 would be good, well away from other tastings (Sep10 66s, Oct29 "69")

Alternatively..How about semi blind and know the vintages
Suppose I simply present the bottles in alphabetical order of the shipper. Then, come the end of of the evening, we guess and reveal each bottle in turn.
This would greatly narrow the possible shippers to guess from for each bottle. As we got further down the flight, the number of possible vintages would narrow also, so there would be a good chance of some fully correct guesses..
