Yes please. I doubt that I'll be early.

I may pop in around 9 to drop off the Cr63 for next week. Could you save me a thimbleful of the ‘22?

Sure.

Or come for the whole event? Perhaps implore Tom to bring you an adoption.

Very kind but I can’t stay long. Much soberness needed early tomorrow morning!

Unfortunately I only saw this thread today — and I was actually free last night! Swines: why did no-one email me or text me?

On a separate note, I would prefer to have the Xmas bask on Thursday 13th as I will be on family vacation on Thursday 20th. I'll start a thread to that effect.

So what was the mystery 1922 port?

Warre - It's low shoulder level had left it significantly oxidised, but behind that was quite a solid wine, so I'm optimistic for the remaining bottles..

I'm not under stocked on either '22 or '24 and the strangely low estimate rang alarm bells.

..but I wasn't going to let eleven bottles of near century old port go for just £850 hammer.

So I bid £900 - and won the lot..

Have looked at the bottles for the first time today, and the lot description didn't do them justice. All the bottles have perfectly intact wax capsules, and the colour looks promising. The worst level is on one of the '22s at low shoulder - not below low shoulder as billed. Only one of the '24s shows seepage (not two) and that's very minor.

- But who's the shipper?
Green Room, Boot & Flogger, Thursday 5th April 2018.

Please reply in the thread.
I really do try to encourage things. Failure happens, but to criticise a (non-)failure of effort seems unjust. Further, you could subscribe to the Organising Tastings and Get-togethers forum.

(That message was deleted from my Sent box earlier today; if not received (I think = not read) then it might disappear from your Inbox.)

Yes, absolutely you did send me a PM. Yes absolutely I could be subscribed to the forums.

But I didn't log on and I'm not subscribed. Mea culpa.

So the fact is that you're still all swines. If only one of you had wondered why Bridgeman wasn't there and asked me.

Truth to be told, I am having to spend around 4 man-days per week on the b.f.t. at the moment and given I am also still working full time life is pretty damn tough. There may not be a b.f.t. next year unless things suddenly get a lot easier.

I should also remark that on the handful of occasions when I have drunk Warre 1922 from a bottle in good condition it has been an amazing port.

Fear not Alex - there are five more bottles, and this was the worst - I guarantee you'll be there again..
